Club Boat
Club Competition Boat Designed By John Courtney
This year it was decided that we would hold steering and tug towing competitions, i was asked if i could design a boat that would serve for both.
Some of our club members do not usualy scratch build so i tried to come up with something that was fairly simple to make, but would give a good performance.
This design could be made in any material, i.e. ply, styrene, balsa or even cardboard if suitably strengthened for tug towing.

This showes all parts cut out and ready to start assembly.

Construction is under way, scrap pieces are cut to the correct angles to hold parts togeather while glue sets.
Photo 3
Build is well under way, now is a good time to fit the motor, prop shaft and rudder while they are easy to get at.
Photo 4
Shows the decking and sides ready to fit, you will notice the bow angles have been cut and taped togeather for glueing. It is best to glue the jointed pices to the stem ( front ) first, allow glue to set before glueing and clamping the sides later. ( Leave sides oversize and trim to shape when set.

Completed hull ready for painting, aperture in rear deck is for aaccess to rudder.

This is my completed boat, the plans i drew are for the hull only, superstruture is up to each individual.
We have a few of these boats already made and more under construction, the idea of these boats is when we compete against each other we start on equal tearms.
